Welcome ladies and germs, to...

OLRmageddon II

The first contest was a good turnout with many entries, and I'd like to see those people return with more entries, as well as people who didn't enter last time. I must say though, that the number of votes from non-mixers was kind of disappointing (though I did receive a fair amount). This time, ralphis gets to choose the topic for OLRmageddon, and he has chosen:

*drumroll*

Ahh, '98 was a good year. You had the N64 still kinda-fairly new, some good games came out. I don't think you should have a problem finding a source game.

THE BONUS THEME IS: Rapping. That's right... rapping. Your mix will receive a +2 bonus if your song:

  • is a rap song.
  • contains a rap "breakdown."
  • contains a section of lyrics in rap form.

And we're going with Wikipedia's definition on what rapping is as "the rhythmic delivery of rhymes."
And no, sung lyrics, regardless of rhyme won't cut it as "rap", so don't try and pass it off as such.

So I bid thee, remix away. Details below:

Arrow Remixing beings Friday, Feb. 2nd, 12PM EST.
Exclamation Mixing ends Friday, Feb. 26th, 12AM EST
Arrow Voting begins as soon as mixing ends and I get the songs hosted.
Exclamation Voting ends Wednesday, Feb. 28th, 12AM EST
Idea Results posted later that day (check more like afternoon to evening-time.

Play it.

Unfortunately, the music isn't so great, so I don't think I'll be remixing it. '98 was a great year for shmups. DDP, ESPRaDe, Radiant Silvergun, R-Type Delta, Battle Garegga (though I thought DDP and Garegga came out in '97...)

EDIT: oh shit, SKULLMONKEYS?

Oh yeah, I guess it was only the console version that came out in '98. Well, it's still an awesome game.

ALRIGHT! Serious question here.

What about games that were rereleased in 1998. I was looking and saw Final Fantasy V and VII, and Final Fantasy Anthology(which btw happen to have soundtracks with exceedingly more redeeming quality than Zelda OoT), but these games weren't really released in 1998. I think we need a call on this. I personally would say the remixed game should have been ORIGINALLY released in 1998, but I didn't choose the theme. Ralphis?...whaddya say?

I would assume that another would assume that released and ORIGINAL is implied (Just like how LttP didn't count as a Capcom game last month)

Yeah, I'd say it should be from a game that either came out or released in '98.

Ok, this is sounding a bit ambiguous. It sounded to me like Ralphis said that if the ORIGINAL came out in 1998, then it was mixable. But, that if the ORIGINAL did not come out in '98, that it wasn't.

example, Final Fantasy VI, originally released in 94, was rereleased in 98, NOT mixable because it's not from 98.

Is that the case? oh whatever... I don't know if I really even care anymore...

What about ports? A certain game was released in Japan in '95, but wasn't brought to the US until '98...
